Canadian Première of Freedom's Fury
Freedom’s Fury, directed by Ottawans Colin K. Gray and Megan Raney Aarons (The Sibs), and produced by Lucy Liu and Quentin Tarantino, is a feature length historical documentary on the 1956 Olympic semi-final water polo match between Hungary and the Soviet Union. Held in Australia, the match occurred just after Russian forces suppressed the Hungarian Revolution in Budapest.
Special guests at the gala were the film’s directors, Ervin Zador of the 1956 Hungarian Olympic Water Polo team and Valerie Gyenge, Olympic champion and member of the 1956 Hungarian Olympic swim team. Peter Munk spoke about his role in helping Valerie immigrate to Canada. Mr Munk helped sponsor the event along with Doug Casey of Charlesfort Development and Fen Hampson of the Norman Patterson School of International Affairs (Carleton University). A question-and-answer session with the filmmakers and a reception followed.
The event was hosted by Canadian Olympian and media personality, Carolyn Waldo.
