The 2010 annual conference of the Hungarian Studies Association of Canada (HSAC) is taking place at Concordia University, Montreal on May 29-30th . As usual, the conference is taking place under the aegis of the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences of Canada http://www.congress2010.ca/ whose overall theme this year is “Connected Understanding/ le savoir branché.” Once again, there is a good diversity of presentations from literature and language to history and politics, and a number of papers will be given by graduate students as well as visitors from Hungary. On Sunday May 30th there will also be a session relating to the overall theme: “Connected Understanding: Prospects for Sustainable Democracy in Hungary” as seen from Hungarian and Canadian scholars and professionals. This year is the 25th anniversary of HSAC and Professor George Bisztray, emeritus Chair of Hungarian Studies at the University of Toronto, and founder of HSAC, will give a paper on the history of the association.
