Rise Up! The 1956 Project

The New Hungarian Voice and the Hungarian Canadian Cultural Alliance, Vancouver presented “RISE UP! THE 1956 PROJECT” – A showcase of three major events commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the 1956 Revolution.

Three outstanding events took place in October:

“Reviving the Revolutionary Spirit”, a showcase of Hungarian Revolutionary artefacts were on display from October 2 – 31, 2006 at the Vancouver Public Library downtown 6th floor history department;

“An Orchestral Tribute to the Hungarian Revolution” a spectacular concert conducted by Leslie Dala with the West Coast Symphony Orchestra performing works by Hungary’s most notable composers, 8:00 pm on October 20, 2006, at the Christ Church Cathedral and an evening of commemoration

“Claiming a Revolutionary Inheritance” a two-hour presentation with speakers, personal reminiscences, historical overview and commentary, included a multimedia presentations on October 23, 2006 in the Alice MacKay Room at the downtown Vancouver Public Library.

The events were successful in creating an awareness for the 1957 Revolution and the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the refugees. The organizers are grateful to t he Vancouver Public Library for their cooperation in organizing these events.
